Things You'll Need:
- Shirt/sweater/dress
- Buttons (best to get a variety) that have at least more than 1 hole work the best
- Clear sewing thread works best, but any thread will work
- Sewing needle (make sure that the size of the needle is smaller than the button hole or you won't be able to thread the buttons)
- Scissors

Step 1
Thread the sewing needle with clear sewing thread. Make sure you double the thread by pulling it half way through the eye of the needle and tying a knot at the free end of the thread. Give yourself at least 12 inches of doubled thread so that you are not constantly having to stop and re-thread your needle.

Step 2
Start on the inside of the sweater near the neck line and push through to the right side of the sweater until the knot on the thread will not go through the fabric. String on a button by putting the needle through one hole and push the button all the way down to the sweater. Put the needle through another hole in the button and push it back into the sweater so that it comes out on the inside of the sweater. Push the threaded needle up through either the same hole as the first one or through another hole if your button has more than 1 hole. Thread back through another hole back into the inside of the sweater. Repeat this step about 4 times per button to make sure the button is secured to the sweater.
-
Step 3
Repeat on new buttons by placing a button about every 1/2 inch along the neck line. If you run out of thread, re-thread the needle and begin again. Make sure you leave enough thread to knot the thread holding the buttons to your sweater so that they don't come off. It is best to double knot the ends to make the line secure.

Step 4
For some added flare, add buttons to the sleeves where the side of your arms would be; down near the cuff. You can also add sea beads in the middle of the buttons to add some color too.
