There are usually just two ways to buy lobster, live or frozen. If buying live lobster is not an option or not your thing, frozen lobster is a reasonable substitute. In order to get the best flavor and consistency, defrosting it properly is important.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Place lobster in a refrigerator and a defrost for 8 to 10 hours. This is the best way to defrost a lobster.

  2. Step 2

If 10 hours is not an option for you, place lobster in a bowl of ice water for up to 20 minutes. A slow stream of cold, running water will help speed up the process.

  3. Step 3

If time is really of the essence, you can defrost the lobster in a microwave. This should only be used as a last resort.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have the time, lobster should be defrosted in a refrigerator. Only use the other methods if 10 hours is not an option for you.
  • If defrosting in the microwave, be careful not to cook any of the lobster.
