Do you love smoothies? What about milkshakes and frozen mixed drinks? Then you must purchase a blender. Not only is this small appliance great for drinks, but it can also be used to blend soups and make salsa. Of course, finding the right blender can be a bit tricky. After all, you want a small appliance that can handle the jobs you intended to use it for. Unfortunately, not all blenders are created equal. That's why it's important to follow a few simple steps when making your purchase.

From Quick Guide: Blender Basics
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a model with a glass jar. Plastic jars crack easily, but glass holds up to several years worth of use. Glass also has the advantage of not holding onto odors, such as onions.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the jar is big enough. A large jar is essential. You need enough room for your ingredients to blend properly. A large blender also allows you to make drinks for a crowd.

  3. Step 3

Pick a model that has several options. A blender with three settings is not going to work very well. A model that has several settings will allow you to blend your foods perfectly. You may also want to consider a model that has a pouring spout if you plan on making several drinks.

  4. Step 4

Look for a powerful model. If you plan on making frozen drinks, you need a model that can hold up to ice. If the model isn't powerful enough, you will quickly burn out the motor making your morning smoothies.

  5. Step 5

Remember that you get what you pay for. There are several inexpensive brands available, but you must remember that inexpensive models usually fail in short period of time. You can buy one expensive blender or you can buy several inexpensive ones. The choice is yours.
