The double magic high five is the perfect way to greet your best friend. Just as its name suggests, it is made up of two sideswiping hand slaps. While the second slap is a little harder than the first, they're both relaxed and casual as with a normal high five. Since you are dealing with two slaps instead of one, you must share a nonverbal communication with your friend so that you both know how to play your part in pulling off the double magic high five.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Be in a casual environment. The double magic high five is perfect for a bar or city street, but it is less appropriate to make use of in an upscale restaraunt or an art museum. You must also show respect to the company you are with when you are tempted to greet a friend with a double magic high five. For instance, if you are on a city street but you are also on your way to an elegant date arm in arm with your girlfriend, take a rain check on that double magic high five that your drinking buddy looks prepared to give you. He'll understand. A casual mood is an essential element for a high-quality double magic high five.

  2. Step 2

Use the double magic to greet someone who you are on a friendly basis with. The double magic is a high five that expresses an informal greeting. It is not necessarily a high five used to celebrate victories (there are other high fives more suited to this purpose). Put the double magic to work when you want to reconnect with an old friend or simply to let someone know that life is treating you well.

  3. Step 3

Be confident about the nonverbal communication you share with your friend. Body language and nonverbal communication are key aspects of any high five, but especially the double magic high five. Without clear nonverbal communication, either you or your friend will be surprised by the second slap of the double magic, and one of you if not both of you will look uncool. You may choose to initiate the double magic with an agreed-upon nod or special smile.

  4. Step 4

Be relaxed. This is key to any high five. Don't pass on tension. Slap your friend's hand but don't force him to go to the emergency room because you fracture his finger with the intensity of your slap. Be loose yet firm at the same time.

  5. Step 5

Prepare for the sting on the second slap. If your friend has a big hand or hits strong, be ready. The sting and energy of the Double Magic high five is part of what makes it fun. It's an unbeatable way to greet your best friend, your second best friend, your acquaintance, or even certain enemies. If you use your skills of nonverbal communication while you give a double magic, you can size up people and their attitudes quickly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to share this high five with others in your community, not just your best friend. This will keep it in circulation and make sure it isn't quickly forgotten.
  • Be wary of acquaintances who use high fives just to create the illusion of friendship. Get to know them first. They will probably want to borrow money, so don't let the high fives fool you.
