Apply Concealer as Makeup Foundation

Applying concealer as makeup foundation can offer your skin superior coverage compared to traditional foundations. Here you can learn the ways to flawlessly apply concealer as makeup foundation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Facial Moisturizer
  • Makeup Sponges
  • Concealer (liquid or solid)

    Using Concealer as Makeup Foundation

  1. Step 1

Start with freshly cleaned, moisturized skin. Preventing flakes and a cake-like appearance can be avoided by ensuring your face is evenly and generously moisturized. It is easier to blot away excess oil from your face than it is to remedy chalky looking makeup.

  2. Step 2

Choose a solid or liquid concealer according to your skin type and a formula that will not clog pores. A concealer in solid form will offer greater coverage but require more time and technique to apply. Liquid concealer is easier to apply and blend but will not compare to the coverage of the solid form.

  3. Step 3

Wet your makeup sponge with either a facial moisturizer or water. Saturate the makeup sponge with concealer and apply to the skin by patting gently until the coverage you want is achieved. A light touch and circular motion are the only way to avoid patchy application and an uneven finish.

  4. Step 4

Mix the liquid concealer with a small amount of facial moisturizer and use a tapping method to apply the makeup with your fingers. Do not over-rub because the concealer may start to peel. Remember: Swiftness is essential. Using your fingers is the best method of application because a makeup sponge will soak up most of the liquid concealer. Most types are formulated to absorb fast.

  5. Step 5

Use a tissue to remove any excess concealer or residue from your facial lotion. If the concealer appears too thick or heavy, gently patting in a circular motion with a wet paper towel or baby wipe will remedy the problem. If your concealer is applied unevenly, blend the makeup with clean wet hands (or you can use your face lotion).

Tips & Warnings
  • Under eye formulas are more likely to have sunscreen added to them and less likely to irritate sensitive skin.
  • Clogged pores can be a problem since a higher percentage of pigment is in concealer than in makeup foundation and can cause blackheads to form.
