Buying a new appliance can be very expensive. For this reason, most of us will attempt to repair our broken appliances first, especially our washing machines. Yet, sometimes finding the replacement washing machine parts can be a frustrating endeavor in itself. Here are some tips to make finding these parts easier.

From Quick Guide: Guide to Appliance Parts
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Make of your appliance
  • Model number of your appliance
  • Correct name of part you need
  • Owner's manual that came with your appliance
  1. Step 1

You must know the make and model number of your washing machine. The make is the brand name of the washing machine. This is usually printed at the top of the washer near the controls and underneath the lid. If you have a front load washing machine the model number may be: behind the washing machine, at the top of the control panel, behind the door, at the lower side of the main cabinet body. If you have a top loading washing machine the model number may be: at the back of the control pane, under the lid or at the lower side of the main cabinet body.

  2. Step 2

You also need to know the exact name of the replacement part you need. You may want to go online to find out what the part's real name is. Sites that sell replacement parts usually also have pictures of them. Having the exact name will make it easier for the salespeople to help you find what you need.

  3. Step 3

Decide whether you wish to order the part online or buy at your local repair store. If you refer to the owner's manual, you may find a listing of both local and online stores that sells replacement parts for your washing machine. If you wish to begin locally, you can take the part with you, if it is small enough to carry easily. This will give you a chance to compare the part with any you choose to buy.

  4. Step 4

Be sure to ask what the total price of the part is. If the part has to be ordered, ask how long it will take and if this will cost you extra. If you have to order online, make sure you know how long it usually takes to ship the part.

  5. Step 5

If you bought your part online, be sure to compare it to your original part before trying to place it onto your washer.

  6. Step 6

Carefully, put your replacement part on your washer. Make sure it is unplugged as you do this. Hopefully, once you restart your washer it will work as good as new.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the replacement part does not match up to the part you took out of your machine, do not attempt to use it. A wrong size part could damage your machine.
