How to Refill a Swifter Wet Mop

Since its introduction, Swifter and similar models of wet mops have made housekeeping easier by eliminating the smelly, inconvenient string and sponge mop. The drawback to using these mops is that the refill cartridges are expensive and over-perfumed. The cartridges are sealed in such a way that they cannot be refilled with your own cleaning products. You can refill your wet mop with earth-friendly, inexpensive household cleaner that you make yourself following these easy steps.

Things You'll Need

• Swifter or other cartridge-style wet mop
• Empty cartridge
• Vinegar
• Water
• Boiling water

Instructions

1. Bring water to a boil on a stove top or in a microwave oven.

2. Holding the empty cartridge by the bottom, insert the top into the boiling water for one minute.

3. Using a towel, grasp the top firmly and twist off. It should come off easily.

4. Add equal parts vinegar and water to cartridge.

5. Replace cap, seal tightly and insert cartridge back into the wet mop.

Tips & Warnings

• You can adust the mixture according to the type floor you are cleaning.

• For added savings, use thick washcloths as pads for the wet mop instead of costly disposable pads.

• Make sure to seal cartridge very tightly so it doesn't drip.
