Things You'll Need:

How to Add Beads to a Bracelet

  1. Step 1

The first thing you'll need are the supplies. Any craft store or bead store will have everything you'll need! First, pick out your beads. Try to chose beads of colors and designs that will complement one another. Think about who you're making the bracelet for and what colors that person will like. Then, pick a thread that will fit through the beads you've selected. A copper wire or plastic thread is usually easier to use. Also, don't forget to pick up clasps so that you can fasten your bracelet easily.

  2. Step 2

Now, start by cutting a piece of thread slightly larger than the circumference of your wrist. Tie one half of the clasp to one end of the thread. The clasp should have two pieces that are attached. Simply take the two pieces apart and start with one of them on one end of the thread. Tie it tight with several knots, since this will keep your bracelet together.

  3. Step 3

Now, think about the design you'll want to use. You may consider picking 3-5 types of beads and creating an alternating pattern. You may just chose to use a random design in which you add beads at random. Another sophisticated style is to start with smaller beads and then use larger beads towards the center of the bracelet. Take a look at beaded bracelets that you own and decide which pattern you like best.

  4. Step 4

Now, pick up a bead and make sure you can see the hole. Insert the free end of your thread through the center of the bead. Push the bead down the thread until it meets the clasp. Make sure everything is secure. Repeat this maneuver until you have added all of the beads to almost cover the entire length of the thread. Leave enough thread at the end to tie on the second part of the clasp.

  5. Step 5

Now, just take the other half of the clasp and tie it to the free end of your thread. Make sure to knot it several times to secure all of your beads. Now, just put the bracelet on your wrist and secure the clasp. Voila!! Your unique beaded bracelet is ready to be shown off to your friends.

Tips & Warnings
  • Making a necklace involves the same steps with a longer thread. Add to your collection by making a matching necklace!
  • Be careful with the size of beads you use. If you've never done this before, try larger beads-- they'll be easier to handle.
