Check your local paper in the classified section to find the police auctions that may be listed. They may be hard to find, as they are typically not listed in easy-to-spot locations. However, this gives those who go to the auctions the advantage of less competition. You may also be able to call a number listed in the ad to get more information on what they are selling.

An important step to finding police auctions is to also find out what you need to attend one. Many auction sites require you to put down a refundable amount of money if you plan to participate in the auction. For example, you may be required to put down $100 to hold your spot. If you buy an item, this will be applied to your purchase. If not, your money will be refunded. Make sure you bring your driver’s license, insurance and registration information, and whatever form of payment they may require.
