Sewing, an age-old craft now applied to the newest garments. Once regarded as an old ladies hobby, or as a means to a frugal end, sewing is enjoying a revival to a younger crowd. From complex gowns to replacing a lost button, sewing is a craft worth knowing. Here we will show you how to hem the sleeve of a t-shirt.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Gather your t shirt, sewing machine and thread.

  2. Step 2

Thread the sewing machine with your desired thread.

  3. Step 3

Place the outside of the t shirt sleeve under the foot, and fold it over to about a quarter of an inch or to the ironed crease line. The inside of the sleeve will be facing upward towards you.

  4. Step 4

Set your preferred stitch pattern. A basic stitch will do just fine, but don't be afraid to experiment with a different stitch if you are so inclined.

  5. Step 5

Press the pedal and allow the foot to do most of the work for you. Watch closely to make sure your hem does not become uneven.

  6. Step 6

Once you finish the seam, back stitch over your hem and trim the excess thread.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure not to pull the fabric as is passes through the foot of the machine, or your hem will pucker.
