How to Connect a Mic to the Canon XH A1 Terminal

The Canon XH A1 comes with a built-in microphone that will capture audio well in controlled settings. However, in order to pick up high quality audio in other settings, it is useful to have an external microphone. This article will tell you how to connect an external mic to the XH A1.

    How to Connect a Mic to the Canon XH A1 Terminal

  1. Step 1

    Activate the XLR input by opening the menu and selecting audio setup. Choose XLR input and set it to ON. Close the menu.

  2. Step 2

    Connect a mic to one of the XLR terminals. If the microphone requires phantom power, set the +48v switch to ON.

  3. Step 3

    Set the input channel switch to CH1 or CH1-CH2 depending on what terminal the mic is plugged in to.

  4. Step 4

    Set the Line/Mic switch to the position corresponding to the input signal.

  5. Step 5

    If needed, turn on the microphone attenuator by setting the XLR MIC ATT switch to ATT. If needed, turn up the gain under audio setup in the menu.

Tips & Warnings
  • Microphones with their own power supply are recommended.
