Things You'll Need:
- Gift basket
- Shrink-wrap bag
- Garbage bag tie
- Hair dryer
- Scissors
- Ribbon
-
Step 1
Purchase a shrink-wrap bag in the size that fits the gift basket you plan to shrink wrap. Shrink-wrap bags are available in a variety of sizes at most craft supply stores.
-
Step 2
Prepare a clean work surface before you shrink wrap your gift basket. The shrink-wrap acts much like a balloon that has been rubbed across someone's head: it is full of static electricity, and it will bring with it every hair and dust speck it comes in contact with. Avoid the embarrassment of giving someone a hair and dust covered gift basket by finishing your basket while working on a clean surface.
-
Step 3
Open the shrink-wrap gift bag and carefully slide the gift basket inside. The bottom seam of the bag should be underneath the basket and out of sight. The seams on the left and right of the bag should be to the left and right sides of the basket as not to obstruct the view of the contents as you look at the basket from a front view.
-
Step 4
Pull the bag tightly around the basket by grasping the top of the bag. Pleats will form in the shrink-wrap as you grasp the top. Use one hand to hold the top and the other hand to encourage the pleats to develop uniformly.
-
Step 5
Use a garbage bag tie to secure the top of the bag. Do not let the shrink-wrap go slack as you remove your hand and attach the tie.
-
Step 6
Use a blow dryer to heat the shrink-wrap so it clings to your basket. Work slowly and apply the heat uniformly across the shrink-wrap. Stop the process when the shrink-wrap is sufficiently tight around the gift basket.
-
Step 7
Trim the excess shrink-wrap above the garbage bag tie, leaving a smaller poof of plastic. Tie a ribbon around the garbage bag tie to conceal the tie and to add a final touch to your gift basket.
