While cooking, place a small bowl of red wine vinegar in the kitchen in an open but safe spot in the kitchen. The white vinegar will remove the smells from frying, smelly foods cooking in the oven, and even the odor from burned foods.

Try cooking apples to remove the odor from deep frying. One of the biggest culprits for causing unpleasant odors in the kitchen is deep frying on your stove top. To prevent the deep fry odor, simply core and slice an apple into thin layers, you can do this while the oil is heating up on the stove. Before frying, submerge the apple slices in the oil and cook them. When the apple slices turn brown, you're all set to fry.

One of the most persistent odors in a kitchen is fish. Fish smells can be eliminated in a number of different ways. Leave a small bowl of white vinegar by your stove while you're cooking and it will help to absorb the odor particles in the air that saturate open surfaces which can cause smells to linger.

Boil lemon water to get rid of fish odors. Bring a small pot of water to a boil then squeeze in the juice from a couple of lemons, toss in the rinds for good measure. The lemon water should help keep any fish odors to a bare minimum while you're cooking, but for the best results, keep the water boiling after you have finished cooking.

Boil spices such as cloves, cinnamon or nutmeg in water or white vinegar. Continue boiling for 20 or 30 minutes, or until your fish smell is completely gone. I prefer water, because boiling vinegar can get smelly in its own right.

Tips & Warnings

  • Line your baking dish with aluminum foil so you can easily discard any fish-cooking remnants.

  • Always be careful boiling anything on the stove.
