Things You'll Need:
- Pink paper
- Pen
- Paper doll and three paper dresses for each
- Markers
- Assorted remnants of lace, ribbon, buttons, etc.
- 2 sizes of paper cups
- Assorted small candies
- Canned or homemade frosting
- Cake mix
-
Step 1
Invitations. Cut a string of paper dolls by drawing a simple outline and cutting where the skirt of the dress touches the fold. Use pink paper folded five times. On each section, write one part of the invitation: You and your doll are invited/To a Doll Party/at Terri’s house/date and time/RSVP phone number.
-
Step 2
Introductions. Begin the party by having each girl introduce her doll by name and tell something about her—perhaps when she was given the doll, who gave it to her and why this is her favorite doll.
-
Step 3
Decorating paper dolls. Give each girl a paper doll and three paper dresses with tabs. Provide colored markers and a box filled with remnants of ribbon, lace and buttons. Girls will have fun chatting while they create fancy dresses for their paper dolls.
-
Step 4
Musical dolls. Put enough chairs in a circle for each girl, minus one. Start the music and have the girls parade around carrying their dolls. When the music stops, each girl tries to put her doll on a chair. One will be left out each time. Continue until one doll is the “winner.”
-
Step 5
Tea party. Set the table with regular size dishes for each girl and miniature dishes for her doll. Use regular size cups cut down to 1-inch depth for candy baskets for the girls and bathroom size paper cups cut down to 1 inch for the doll’s candy baskets. Staple a paper handle onto each.
-
Step 6
Refreshments. Using a cake mix, bake a cake in a deep oven safe mixing bowl that you have greased well. After it’s cooled, turn the cake out. Cut a small hole in the top in which you insert a Barbie-type doll up to her waist. Frost the cake continuing the frosting over the doll’s bodice to create a strapless “gown.” If you’re good at cake decorating, go for it—otherwise, decorate the gown with small candies.
