Things You'll Need

• Dried sage, mugwort, and lavender ("smudge stick")
• Matches or a lighter
• A candle

Instructions

1. Clean the home thoroughly. Whether you're moving into an apartment or a house, you want to start off with a properly-cleaned home. If the former owners cleaned the home, you should still clean it thoroughly, to give it your special touch and to signify that every part of the home has been transferred from the previous occupant to you.

2. If you cannot physically clean the home yourself, hire a good cleaning service or friends you trust, to clean it for you.

3. Invite people who are invested in your happiness and well-being to come to your home. Do not enter the home immediately. Wait until everyone has arrived.

4. Light a candle and then light the smudge stick off the candle; sage represents a spiritual cleaning of your new space. Move the smudge stick from the bottom of the doorway along the doorjamb, covering the perimeter of the door.

5. Enter the home. "Smudge" every doorway in the home. The smoke attaches itself to anything negative in the home and releases it, making room for all that is positive as you settle into your blessed new home.
