Trying to banish your frizzy hair? Whether you have curly or straight hair, some people are prone to frizzy hair based on their genes, but you don’t have to live with it. Follow these steps to smooth frizzy hair.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Smoothing hair shampoo and conditioner
  • Smoothing hair serum, Pomade or olive oil
  1. Step 1

Start with clean hair. Wash your hair using a “smoothing” or moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Do not use a volumizing shampoo. You could also use a leave-in conditioner.

  2. Step 2

Add a tiny amount of olive oil in the palms of your hands and apply to the ends of your hair. Run hands lightly through the bottom half of your hair.

  3. Step 3

Comb through your hair with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers. Allow your hair to air dry. If you use a hairdryer, use a diffuser attachment and blow the air downwards to reduce frizz.

  4. Step 4

Use a flat iron to straighten and smooth your hair. Clip your dry hair to hold it back, and then release one small section at a time to go over it once with the flat iron. Comb each section with a fine-tooth comb immediately after ironing.

  5. Step 5

Use a light hair shine serum when hair is dry. If you have coarser or curlier hair, you’ll have better results with a heavier pomade. Apply a small amount gently through the bottom half of your hair and the ends.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have curly hair, finger-comb your hair or use a wide-tooth comb instead of brushing it out. Try different brands of hair serums to see which products work best for your hair. You could also talk to other people who have similar hair texture and try the products that work for them.
  • Use olive oil sparingly or your hair will appear greasy. Do not brush wet hair with a fine-tooth comb or brush as it will cause hair breakage.
