Snowshoeing is a fun winter activity but it is essential to stay hydrated while snowshoeing. Exertion in the cold mountain air makes it easy to become dehydrated. Instructions to Stay Hydrated While Snowshoeing

  1. Step 1

Drink regularly before, during, and after snowshoeing. Don't drink only when you are thirsty. Thirst is a poor indicator of dehydration. You will become dehydrated before you fee thirsty.

  2. Step 2

Drink 10-16 ounces of fluids before you even begin snowshoeing.

  3. Step 3

Drink throughout the day. Carry water in a backpack or a mounted hydration system. A mounted hydration system will allow you to drink and not slow down your snowshoeing.

  4. Step 4

Reduce sweat loss. Wear clothing that is well ventilated and will not allow you to overheat while snowshoeing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Water is good to drink. Also a sports drink is fine and preferred by many for its taste.
  • Avoid caffeine as it is a diuretic and makes you more susceptible to dehydration. Also avoid alcohol until after snowshoeing.
