Neck extensor stretching is a useful remedy for necks that are sore and have muscles that need to relax. Follow these steps to complete neck extensor stretches.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand with your posture straight and your shoulders relaxed. Let your arms hang loose at your sides.

  2. Step 2

Close your jaw and bow your head into the center of your chest. You will feel a stretching sensation along the right and left side of your neck between your shoulders and ears.

  3. Step 3

Hold this pose, and flex your head to the right side as if you were trying to touch your ear to your shoulder. The right side of your neck will relax while the opposite side will feel an increase in tension.

  4. Step 4

Hold stretch for 10 to 15 seconds when you feel a satisfactory level of tension. Relax your muscles and bring your head back to the center of your chin. Repeat this stretch as many times as you feel are necessary; normally two or three repetitions is satisfactory.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Steps 1 through 4, only this time use the left side of your body so that the right side of your neck is benefiting from the stretch. Perform as many repetitions as necessary.
