How to Do Neck Rotation Stretches

Pulling a neck muscle can be a devastating setback not only to your exercise regimen, but your daily life. By taking a few extra minutes you can ensure your neck is loose and prepared for strenuous exercise.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large book such as a dictionary or phone book
  1. Step 1

    Find a thick book such as a dictionary or phone book and place it on the floor with enough space for your body to completely lie down.

  2. Step 2

    Lie with your back to the floor and the back of your head against the book. Your neck should be flat, not bending up or down. If it is, substitute an appropriate book.

  3. Step 3

    Keep your back and shoulders against the ground, and rotate your head as far as it will comfortably reach to the right. Most likely, your cheek will be touching the book.

  4. Step 4

    Hold stretch for 30 seconds when you feel a satisfactory level of tension. Relax your muscles and bring your head back to its original position. Repeat this stretch as many times as you feel are necessary, normally two or three repetitions.

  5. Step 5
