Prevent Fungal Skin Infections

Fungi are all around us, on the soil, the floors, or areas surrounding the house. Their presence everywhere increases our chance of being a victim of their attack; and the most vulnerable part of the human body is the skin. This is because our skin has a warm moisturized texture, which makes it an ideal spot for the fungi to settle, multiply, and cause an infection. When fungi attacks the skin, they only cause superficial skin problems, and can easily be treated. But having said this does not mean that fungi infections are easy to handle. The scaling, rashes, burning sensation, and most of all the unbearable itchiness of the affected area – wraps up the tormenting moments with having them (fungi) on the skin. To prevent fungal skin attacks, here are some helpful ways to protect you against it.

Instructions

  1. How to Prevent Fungal Infection on the Scalp (Tinea Capitis) and Skin (Ringworm)

    • 1

Keep your skin clean and dry. Shampoo your hair and scrub your skin regularly, then dry them thoroughly.

    • 2

Observe proper washing of hands when in contact with soil, pets, touching bills or coins, or when shaking hands with other people.

    • 3

Avoid sharing stuffs like comb or brushes, hats or any type of headgear, clothes, and towels.

    • 4

Wash clothes and towels regularly to prevent the possibility of acquiring or spreading the infection.

    • 5

Change damp exercise or regular clothes immediately. The same goes with wet swim wears, especially when swimming in public pools.

    • 6

Avoid wearing tight clothes and hats for long periods of time. This will only provide moisture on the areas and make it an appealing spot for fungi.

    • 7

Watch your diet. Eat more fiber and yogurt to boost your immune system.

    • 8

Avoid eating foods high in sugar, dairy, caffeine, wheat, and yeast – as all of these will enhance fungal growth.

    • 9

Exercise to keep your body lean. Skin folds or flaps are one of the favorite areas of fungi. So the leaner you are, the fewer folds you have, and the safer you will be from fungal infections.

    • 10

This condition can be acquired from pets. So if any of your pets develop rashes, proceed to your veterinarian for treatment.

How to Prevent Fungal Infection on the Groin (Jock Itch) and Feet (Athletes foot)

    • 11

Wash your groin area and feet properly (scrub more on the ridges), especially after swimming in a public pool.

    • 12

Dry groin and feet thoroughly. When drying with a towel, be sure to dry your groin area first before your feet.

    • 13

      Change underwear and socks daily.

    • 14

Wash your towels, pants, socks and bath mats with hot water. And as for your shoes, place some anti-fungal powder on it to keep your feet safe.

    • 15

After doing your exercise – change your damped jogging pants, shorts, underwear, or socks right away.

    • 16

Avoid wearing pants, underwear, stockings, or socks that are too thick and tight. This type of stuffs will only bring in more moisture that would attract fungi. Wear some loose garments and cotton fabrics to allow your skin to breathe.

    • 17

Do not share personal stuffs like underwear, socks, or shoes with others to avoid contamination.

    • 18

Clean your surroundings especially in areas where fungi are most likely to settle (tubs and bathroom floors).

    • 19

Avoid borrowing stuffs used by other people when doing your nails or having a foot spa.

    • 20

Keep toenails clean and short; and avoid walking barefoot on areas like locker rooms and public showers.
