How To Style Short Africa American Hair

  1. Step 1

Go at least 24 hours without washing your hair. This way your scalp doesn't get dried out. You don't want to have a bad reaction to the chemicals you will be putting in your head to get the waves or curls you desire.

  2. Step 2

Select a hair relaxer product from your local drug store. There you will find a large array of hair relaxers. Pick the store brand for the best deal. They're often made with the exact same ingredients as more expensive name brands.

  3. Step 3

Go home and begin following the steps on the box from start to finish. These steps will show you how to apply the relaxer to your hair. You want to make sure you paid close attention to step one in this article because that is what the product will state first.

  4. Step 4

Take a styling comb or a brush and style your hair in the pattern and or direction you want it to go in. So if you want your waves to form a 360 around your head you will brush the top straight forward, the sides down to a forward angle and the back straight down. This will form a 360 of waves around your head.

  5. Step 5

Get a sleeping cap/ du-rag/ or bandanna and put it on your head to keep your hair in the desired style.

  6. Step 6

Wake up the next morning, remove the cap and apply activator and gel. Restyle your hair and continue with your day. The style should stay fairly neat throughout the day.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you don't leave the relaxer in your head to long because you will burn your scalp!
  • Avoid sleeping without a hair cap
  • Avoid wearing hats during the day
  • Avoid rough housing or play that will mess up your hair
