- Medium cooking pot
- Water
- Peeler
- Knife
- Butter
- Milk
- Salt
- Strainer

How to make real mashed potatoes

Begin by gathering everything needed for this recipe. Peel the potatoes and then cut them into uniform pieces for even cooking. Place potatoes in medium cooking pot. After all potatoes are peeled and cut, fill pot with enough water to cover potatoes and come approximately 1 inch above the potatoes.

Place pot on stove and cook on medium high heat until fork tender.

Remove pot from stove, turn off heat and drain potatoes. Place the potatoes back in the pot and return to the stove on medium heat. This will help remove the additional water from the potatoes. Do not let them burn.

Remove potatoes from heat and add enough milk to make a paste of the potatoes. Using your mixer or masher, blend potatoes and milk until thick and slightly lumpy. Now add butter and mix until they are the consistency you desire.

Add salt to taste and serve.

Tips & Warnings
Do not leave potatoes unattended when returning them to the stove to remove excess water. They will burn quickly so make sure you continue to move them around in the pot. If the potatoes are still too thick after adding the butter you desire, add a little more milk to thin them to your desired consistency. A great addition to these would be to add parsley to the finished product.
