- Toast:
- 1 regular size loaf French bread, sliced
- 8 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon each: ground cinnamon, allspice, cloves
- Syrup:
- 3/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1 1/3 cups brown sugar
- 3 TBSP light corn syrup

The night before, prepare French toast:Butter a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.Place slices of bread in bottom. . The next morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar and corn syrup; heat until bubbling. Pour over bread and egg mixture.

Use a whisk or electric mixer and large mixing bowl to beat together eggs, milk, cream, vanilla and spices until well blended.

Pour over bread slices, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight.

When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake french toast uncovered for 45 minutes, or until brown on top.

While french toast bakes, combine brown sugar, butter and corn syrup in medium sized heavy saucepan on stove over medium high heat. Cook and stir for about 5 minutes, until butter is melted and ingredients are well blended.
