When you need to drag a log, the timber hitch is an expedient choice in knots. Easy to tie, easy to untie, and strong holding, the timber hitch can be one of the most important knots in your inventory.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Take your rope and wrap it around the log; leaving around a foot and a half to work with.

  2. Step 2

Run the working end around the standing portion of the rope and pull it through this new loop.

  3. Step 3

Wrap the working end of the rope around the loop three or more times. If you are using a rough twine rope, three times will hold, while slicker ropes like nylon can take five or more wraps to hold.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rough natural fiber ropes tend to hold much better for this knot than synthetics.
