How to Take Apart a Trumpet

Trumpets have been a popular instrument for a long time. Proper care is essential for the instrument's longevity. To get the desired result for many hours of use, check the instrument on a regular basis for buildup on the valves, sleeves and slides. To do this, knowing how to disassemble the instrument is crucial.

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft cloth

    Taking a Trumpet Apart

  1. Step 1

    Grip the first valve tightly and twist counterclockwise until the valve is free from the sleeve.

  2. Step 2

    Repeat step one for remaining valves.

  3. Step 3

    Locate and remove bottom sleeve covers.

  4. Step 4

    Locate tuning slide and remove.

  5. Step 5

    Repeat step three for remaining slides.

Tips & Warnings
  • Gripping parts to be removed with a soft cloth prolongs the life of the finish.
  • Be gentle when removing parts. It is possible to damage them if pulled out too quickly.
