Instructions

    • 1

Cut the strings away from a set of old venetian blinds and remove the individual blinds. Discard string, header, and any damaged blinds. Wash and dry the blinds with a mild detergent.

    • 2

Cut the blinds into 6 to 8 inch sections. Using sharp scissors, round the corners of one end of the blind. Cut the other end into a rounded point.

    • 3

Using weather proof paint, apply a base coat of paint to the blind in the color of your choice and let dry. Think contrasting colors. If your plant marker will be nestled among blooming flowers, pick a color that will complement them.

    • 4

Write the name of the plant on the plant marker with a permanent marker and set it aside to dry. Although plain handwriting is fine, decorative print will enhance the appearance of your markers.

    • 5

Sketch designs onto the plant marker with a pencil until you find exactly what you want. Try ladybugs, dragonflies and other flying insects. A spider in a web is always appealing in the garden. Use your imagination to create a miniature scene on the marker.

    • 6

Paint the scene with brightly colored acrylic paints following your sketched design. Allow to dry overnight.

    • 7

Apply a coat of clear sealant on the plant marker to seal in the colors and prevent fading.
