How to Create a Frankenstein Costume

If you're looking for a classic monster costume, consider a Frankenstein costume. It's moderately easy to make a Frankenstein costume with some items you may already have in your house.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

Old suit jacket
Shoulder pads
Two empty tissue boxes
A black wig
Halloween make-up kit
Black pants
Fabric squares
Plain black t-shirt
Hot glue
Fake chains
Red shoelaces
Baby powder
Plastic bolts
Spirit gum

Make the Frankenstein Coat

Step 1

Take an old dark-colored or black suit coat or buy one at the local thrift store. Also find some fabric remnants from the sewing pile or the remainder bin at the local fabric store.
Step 2

Cut the fabric into squares with rough edges. Glue the fabric squares onto the coat in a random pattern. Glue one on the front of the coat, one on the elbow and a couple on the back.
Step 3

Attach homemade shoulder pads to the inside of the suit coat for the Frankenstein Halloween costume. Use an old pair of socks or a pair of old shoulder pads from a shirt or coat.
Step 4

Add fake chain links around the cuffs of the sleeves. These can be made from an old chain link belt or a plastic chain, or you can paint them on with silver paint.
Step 5

After the glue dries, roll up the coat and store it under a couch cushion to make it nice and wrinkled.

Make the Shoes

Step 1

Take two empty tissue boxes and paint them black.
Step 2

Open one end of the box and slide it over a comfortable shoe.
Step 3

Make six holes in the top of the fake Frankenstein Halloween costume shoes and lace the red shoelaces through the holes and around your shoe, securing it in place.
Step 4

Now you have big Frankenstein shoes without having to wear platforms.

Hair and Makeup

Step 1

Cut up a cheap black wig to make it look frayed and scary. Or spike your hair with a strong gel.
Step 2

Use Halloween face paint to make your face green.
Step 3

Paint on a scar or two on your forehead and your cheek.

Finalzing the Frankenstein Halloween Costume

Step 1

Dress in a plain black or gray t-shirt.
Step 2

Put on a pair of tight black pants.
Step 3

Add the makeup and the wig. Use spirit gum to attach two plastic knobs to the side of your neck.
Step 4

Put on the Frankenstein Halloween costume coat. Pat baby powder onto the coat, to make it look worn and dusty.
Step 5

Add the shoes.
