Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Store-bought gum paste
  • Acrylic lacquer (optional)
  • Wire
  • Styrofoam
  • Dusting color (optional)
  • Bag to store gum paste
  • Water
  • Damp cloth (optional)

How to Make a Rose Bud with Gum Paste

  1. Step 1

For this project ,we'll be using gum paste that is pre-made. You will need to purchase this from the store and add water. After you mix the water with it, the paste should be smooth and non-sticky.

  2. Step 2

Gum paste works just like modeling clay. It's easiest to use when its a few days old. Make sure to keep what you're not using in a container so it doesn't dry out. You can cover it with a damp cloth, but if you use too much water, the paste will fall apart.

  3. Step 3

After you make your paste, color it the appropriate color for the flowers.

  4. Step 4

Make the base of the flower around a piece of wire and stick it in a piece of stryofoam so you will be free to shape and add the petals.

  5. Step 5

Roll out the gum paste and create individual petals by hand. Wrap them around the base. Continue until you've create a flower. The paste will take several days to dry. Afterwards, if you wish to add more color, you can use dusting colors.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your creations are not going to be eaten and will not touch food, you can spray them with acrylic laquer.
  • Look at several pictures of the type of flower you wish to create to get a better idea of what the petals should look like.
