Stipple is added to makeup to recreate normal skin texture in a putty or wax figure. This is done to diffuse the light that is reflected by the smooth surface of the wax or putty, to give viewers the idea they are seeing actual skin texture and not makeup.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stipple brush
  • Powder of your choice
  • Paper towel
  1. Step 1

Make sure the base makeup is dry to the touch before beginning by touching your fingertip to the last area that was applied. If your finger comes back clean, the makeup is dry.

  2. Step 2

Hold the stipple brush with your forefinger and thumb, and place it lightly on the figure's forehead. Rotate the brush in a circular motion across the entire forehead, not hitting the same area twice. This will help to recreate the pores of the forehead. Remember that these pores the smallest on the face, so you do not spend a lot of time here.

  3. Step 3

Now blend your brush into a small amount of powder in a paper towel. This dries any makeup that is left on the tips of the bristles. You should now wipe the ends of the brush on the paper towel to remove any excess.

  4. Step 4

The nose and cheeks need special attention, as the pores here are the largest of the face and the most easily seen from a distance. To make the correct size, gently press the stipple brush into the skin on the ball of the nose and pull straight back at a 90-degree angle. The cheeks should be done with a lighter touch than the nose but the same angle and sizing.

  5. Step 5

After cleaning the brush again, start on the chin. Very few pores must be visible, so you need to brush lightly across the chin from the sub-mental sulcus to the mental sulcus. This will create a small but important triangular area of the chin to attract attention.

  6. Step 6

Lightly powder the entire face with the end of your stipple brush. This will round out any hard lines or creases that you have made while stippling the pores in place.
