Things You'll Need:
- Rose bush
- pH or litmus paper
- water
- water jug
- shovel or small trowel
- lawn clippers
-
Step 1
Remember that your new rose bush should be able to get at least 6 full hours of sun a day in your yard. So seek out an area that will allow the needed light and shade for your new addition.
-
Step 2
Your roses will need acidic ground. So, use your litmus or pH papers to test the soil before you bury your new bush. The scale should be between 5.7 and 6.4. You can use lime or pine tree needles to help ease the base of your soil if you need more acidity.
-
Step 3
You now have to test the drainage of the soil where you are going to plant your rose bush. Dig a small hole about 10 inches deep and fill it with water. Allow it to drain completely, and then refill it. If it is completely empty in less than an hour and a half or so, you have good drainage.
-
Step 4
Now since the drainage is good, the acidity is perfect and the light is great, you can plant your new rosebush. Dig a hole that is about 2 feet deep and wide for each of your bushes. Make sure if you have more than one, that you plant them ample amount of area apart so the roots can grow.
-
Step 5
Trim back your roots now and place your bush into the ground. Fill the hole with the soil that you originally dug out of the hole. Water the plant short of dripping, and leave it for the day. You have just planted your new rosebush.
