How to Stretch Triceps

The triceps or back of the upper arm help to extend the elbow and can become tight with use. Some benefits of stretching your triceps include increased performance, decreased chance of injury, improvement of joint mobility, reduced muscular tension, and enhanced overall enjoyment of physical activities. Take the time to tend to tight triceps.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand up straight with good posture.

    • 2

Raise your right arm straight above your head.

    • 3

Bend your right elbow. Use your left arm to gently guide the right elbow behind your head until you feel a gentle stretch in your right triceps or back of the upper right arm.

    • 4

Hold for at least 30 seconds.

    • 5

      Repeat with your left arm.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don’t stretch until you are uncomfortable. This will not cause increased flexibility.

  • Don’t pull your arm towards your head. This will stretch your latisimus dorsi, not your triceps.

  • If you feel pain, stop immediately.
