Writing Your Memories Adds a Little Love to Your Scrapbook

Journaling and memorabilia can make your scrapbook memorable. Learn how to use these two popular techniques to bring life into your scrapbook pages.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scraps of pretty paper
  • Photographs

    Scrapbooking

  1. Step 1

While every picture might have a thousand words, that doesn't leave much room for all the little flowers, buttons and other scrap booking embellishments you bought.

  2. Step 2

When laying out your designs, leave room for a bit of lined paper or memorabilia.

  3. Step 3

Memorabilia can be ticket stubs, a cocktail napkin, hospital ID bracelets, recipe cards, or even a lost tooth.

  4. Journaling

  5. Step 1

When writing your memories, you can write one-liners that tell a longer story, like "And then there were three" or you can retell an entire story with vivid detail. You can use the lyrics of a song, or a bible verse as well.

  6. Step 2

A journal can be handwritten or printed from the computer. Having a copy of your handwriting could personalize the treasure of your journal for future generations. If you're not happy with your writing, there are several italic fonts that look very nice in a scrapbook.

  7. Step 3

Using other people's memories can be a treat, too. Send an email to the other people in the picture and ask them to send you their version of the story. You might wonder if you were even together that day.

  8. Step 4

Be sure to use all the senses in your journaling. What did those roses smell like? What did the garage band sound like? How did that lemonade taste?

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're working on a digital scrapbook, you can scan your journal pages into the computer so that they look more authentic. This also enables you to create more than one layout from the same journal page.
  • Make sure the inks and papers you're using are non acidic so that they don't destroy your photos.
