If you like throwing a curve ball you're going to love throwing the RX pitch. While it will test your patience, adding this to your game will keep batters off balance during your time on the mound. You'll be the talk of the league.
Set your middle and index fingers in the proper position. Placing your fingers for an RX pitch will feel uncomfortable in the beginning but rest assured the more you practice the easier it will get. The RX pitch is just like a curve ball just slower. If you are a right handed pitcher position your middle and index fingers as if you are about to throw a curve ball. Now instead of keeping them straight make an X. If you are left handed and want to throw the RX pitch place your fingers on the right seam.
Step2
Put your thumb at six o'clock. When throwing the rx pitch its important to place your thumb in the same area you would a curve ball. The only difference between the two pitches is what was talked about in Step 1. Once you have your thumb secure its time to throw your first RX pitch.
Step3
Throw the RX Pitch like a curve ball. Everything is the same from here on out. Understandably you are going to feel discomfort from crossing your middle and index finger like an X across the baseball, but other than that you should be fine. There isn't a specific throwing motion so a 90 degree angle, three-quarters angle, or overhand will work, although the 90 degree angle will give you the most break.
Step4
Expect the break. The RX pitch breaks like crazy once you get the hang of it and you can really scare the hitters you face. When facing a batter on the same side of the plate as your pitching hand throw one right at them. Seriously, the baseball will look as though its coming right at them but because its slower then a curve ball the break is magnificent and will end up being a strike. This is what you can look forward too throwing an rx pitch.
Tips & Warnings
It's important to be patient when throwing an rx pitch. The velocity and control can take some time getting used to, so be prepared.
Finger exercises will help make it easier to grip the rx pitch.
Since a curve ball and or the RX pitch can have wear and tear on your arm, younger players should not attempt this pitch.
