How to Participate in the Deaflympics
Every summer and winter the Deaflympics host deaf athletes in teams from all over the world. One of the world's fastest growing sporting events, participation in the Deaflympics is open only to deaf athletes. Learn about how to participate in the Deaflympics by reading this tutorial.

In order to be eligible for the Deaflympics, you must have medical proof that you are deaf and turn in the official audiogram form.

You must also be a member of an affiliated national Deaf Sports Federation and be a citizen of the country which you plan to represent.

There is no general age restriction for competitors, but certain sports or events might have restrictions.

If you’d like to participate in the Summer Deaflympics you’ll need to hone your skills in one of the twenty disciplines currently available. They are: athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, bowling, cycling road, football, handball, judo, karate, orienteering, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball. water polo, wrestling freestyle, wrestling Greco-Roman.

If you’d like to participate in the winter Deaflympics, there are currently five disciplines you can choose from. They are Alpine skiing, ice hockey, cross country skiing, snowboarding and curling.

Make sure you send in your forms and applications as early as possible in order to be considered for competition. You must be a current member of the Deaf Sports Association in order to compete.
