Often we need to know how many gallons of water our ponds hold. Dechlorinator, bacteria, fish medication are measured in ounces per gallon of water, so knowing how much water is in in our pond is necessary. It's easy to figure out.
• A measuring tape to learn the above measurements
• A calculator unless you are good at arithmetic
If your pond's shape is irregular just even it out in your head and make a close guess. Measurements do not need to be exact.
How much Water do I Have?
Step1
Write down your pond's length, width and depth.
Step2
Multiply the length times the width and you have square feet.Multiply the depth times the square feet and you have cubic feet.
Step3
There are @7.5 gallons in one cubic foot. Multiply the cubic feet times 7.5 and you know how many gallons you have.
Step4
If you have a round pond, find out the diameter (The length across the circle). Halve the diameter and you have the radius. Square the radius. (Multiply it times itself). Now multiply that number times Pi. (3.14) and you have the square footage of the surface area.
Step5
Multiply that number times the depth and you have the cubic feet. Multiply the cubic feet times 7.5 and you know how many gallons of water are in your pond.
Tips & Warnings
You could do these calculations each time and get good at doing it in your head or you could write down the number of gallons and put it where you will remember it
