How to Delete Your Cookies

When you surf the Internet, sites collect information from you. Sites you visit place a small text file on your computer to store information gathered when you visit their site. Such information as where you went and visited are stored on the computer. Some of it is necessary so sites can personalize your contents such as local news and weather. However, if you are concerned about privacy issues and sharing personal information with advertisers, you may want to delete your cookies. Here is a guide on how to do that.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox)

  1. Step 1

    From the Internet Explorer 6 Tools menu, click "Internet Options."

  2. Step 2

    Got to the "General" tab. Click the "Settings" button, then click the "View files" button.

  3. Step 3

    A window will open up, Select the cookie or cookies you wish to delete. If you wish to delete more than 1 cookie, press "CTRL" and click each cookie that you want to delete. If you want to delete all the cookies, press "CTRL" + "A" to select all the cookies listed. Press the "Delete" key. Click "OK" twice and you are finished.

    In Firefox, click "Tools" and select "Options."

  6. Step 2

    Click the "Privacy Icon." Then click "Show Cookies" under the Cookies section.

  7. Step 3

    Choose the cookie to remove or click "Remove All Cookies" and click "Close." Click "OK" and re-launch your browser.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful of deleting too many cookies Some websites store your member name, password or other personal information in a cookie. If you delete that cookie, you may need to re-enter this information the next time you visit the site.
