Lasagna is one of the best comfort foods, but a traditional recipe is often loaded with carbs. Between the sauce and the noodles, many people on a low-carb diet may think lasagna is off limits. Thankfully, there are a few steps you can follow to make any lasagna recipe low-carb.

From Quick Guide: Low-Carb Diet Plan
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Substitute traditional lasagna noodles with vegetables. Long slices of roasted eggplant or zucchini would be the perfect alternative. Both choices only have 7 grams of carbs per serving, while a serving of lasagna noodles has around 40 grams.

  2. Step 2

Use Alfredo sauce. This choice may not be traditional, but a serving of Alfredo sauce only has 3 grams of carbs, while a traditional tomato sauce has 10 grams. This is because you must add sugar to help balance the acidity in tomatoes. Some store-bought brands even contain corn syrup.

  3. Step 3

Keep the cheese. Don't be afraid to keep the cheese mixture in between the layers. Also add as much mozzarella to the top as you'd like. This adds tons of flavor, while still being low-carb.

Tips & Warnings
  • Switch the beef in the recipe to chicken. They're both low-carb, but chicken would taste better in this low-carb version.
