Tumbling can be a lot of fun. Learning acro tricks can be beneficial for cheerleading, dance, or just to show off every once in a while. However, these types of tricks require a lot of practice and you must be careful as they are dangerous. It's very easy to hurt yourself if you do the trick incorrectly or fall out of your landings. Here's a step by step guide to help you learn a round off back handspring.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Soft or padded flooring (for practice)
  • Big, open space
  • Comfortable, flexible shoes or bare feet

Step1
You need a long stretch of somewhat padded terrain to do your tumbling on. First you need to figure out of you do right or left round offs. Practice a cartwheel and see which one is more comfortable. The "left" and "right" is determined by which hand you put down first, or otherwise known as the inside arm. If you do left better you'll want to start running with your left foot, if right then your right foot.
Step2
Run two strides (left - left foot, right foot; right - right foot, left foot). Then hurdle with the opposite foot, arms stretched straight toward the sky. Stretch your arms and place your hands on the floor, fingers spread strong and twist your lower body from your waist then rotate your legs over your head.
Step3
Your feet should land together, toes facing the direction you just came from. Your arms should still be stretched upward, right beside your ears. Now spring from your feet, pushing off your toes adn round your spine outward, hips forward. Reach for the ground with strong hands.
Step4
Push off of your hands and flip your legs over your head. Land upright, arms still stretched upward and by your ears. Rebound (push off your toes) and land again with your feet together, body tight.

Tips & Warnings

  • Strengthen your arms for better control and power
  • Keep your legs squeezed and feet together during tricks
  • Keep the sequence moving quickly
  • Don't bend your arms to push off the floor harder, it will weaken your stunt's speed and power
