Take digestive enzymes to help ease acid production

    • 6

Take heartburn preventative medication, suggested by your doctor

Tips & Warnings

  • Go easy on the pepper, but salt is OK.

  • Try broiled fish or meat, instead of fried.

  • Use herbs such as basil, rosemary or parsley, which are mild spices, but won't cause GERD symptoms.

  • At resturants, ask what substitutes they have, if the selection has pepper or other spices.

  • At home, substitute spices for herbs in your recipes.

  • If you smoke, stop. Smoking inhibts the production of saliva, which is one of your defenses against damage to the esophagus.
