How to Use Window Cleaning Towels

Window washing is one of those seemingly-simple tasks that can be frustrating if you don't use the right equipment. Using the right window-cleaning towels can make a crucial difference between a shiny, clear result and a streaky mess.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Towels (shammy, terrycloth, linen or scrub)
  • Window-cleaning solution
  • Squeegie with sponge on one side, rubber blade on other
  1. Step 1

    Determine which towel is best for your window-cleaning job. Choices include shammies, terrycloth, linen and scrub towels.

  2. Step 2

    Be sure to have two to four towels with you when you tackle the project. One towel will be used to dry any excess water from the window and one to keep the squeegie blade dry.

  3. Step 3

    Spread your cleaning solution on the window with the sponge. Use the squeegie blade to remove excess water.

  4. Step 4

    Use one towel to wipe excess water from the window. Be careful not to leave streaks.

  5. Step 5

    Take another towel and wipe water off the squeegie blade.

  6. Step 6

    Change towels when the towels become too damp to be effective or leaves streaks on the window.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat until all the windows are clean.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure the towel you choose is the right size for the job.
  • Do not let towels get too wet.
  • Rubber squeegie blades should be smooth for the best result.
  • If you use a ladder to clean windows, be sure to take all safety precautions.
