Most grocery stores now sell their own canvas totes for shopping. You can create your own rather than buy something ready-made. Turn a tank top into a tote in about 30 minutes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 tank top
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread
  • Optional: Cotton fabric for front pocket
  1. Step 1

    Launder your tank top.

  2. Step 2

Turn it inside out and sew a straight seam across bottom, using a sewing machine or by hand.

  3. Step 3

Sew another straight seam along bottom. (This makes the tote extra sturdy).

  4. Step 4

Turn the tote rightside out, and if you're going to add a pocket like the one in the picture, cut a piece of fabric to fit. Position the pocket on the front of the tank and pin into place. Use your sewing machine or hand stitch around the outside edge of pocket to attach it.

  5. Step 5

Stitch vertically from the top to the bottom of the pocket in the middle, as shown in the photo. This divides the pocket into two sides, for keys and coupons. Finish with a little embellishment like the lace in the photo, if you want.

Tips & Warnings
  • This tote is a snap to launder; just turn inside out and throw in the washer and dryer.
