Use an ice crusher and crush up the ice, and then add it to a small cup and take it to your child with a spoon. On a hot day this can be a very special treat, and most children prefer ice to water. And we get the pleasure of knowing that they are getting water.

Make your own ice Popsicles. You can use just regular water or a flavored one like Propel. We also like the sparkling waters available on the market. This way your child can enjoy a Popsicle and get the benefits of water as well.

Take your child to the store and let them pick out a new cup, like a fancy one with a straw or one that lights up. These can be expensive, but I have found that your child will be so excited to drink out of his new cup that you can say " If I buy this for you its our healthy cup and only healthy things like water can go in it." This has worked for me.

Do a taste test with your child. This can be fun and it will make your child feel like they are in control of what they drink. Go to the store and purchase a variety of the flavored, bottled, sparkling waters. Then have your child sit down at the table and tell her you are going to play a game. Blindfold your child and have her try the various waters and tell her to rate them from 1-10 or for younger children have them rate them good or bad. This can be a great game because usually your child will like more than one of the waters and you can actually have a variety for them, so they do not get burned out on one flavor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure your child is getting enough flouride. You can mix half tap water in with the flavored waters and your child won't even know the difference.
