How to Enable Write Caching on Standard Disks

Following these step-by-step instructions will allow you to enable write caching on the standard drives. This is done to optimize disk performance in Windows.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Double click on "My Computer." This will usually be on your desktop. If it is not, click once on the "Start" menu. Look for "My Computer" and click once on it.

  2. Step 2

    Click once on your "Local Disk." The disk will have a letter next to it. For instance, it will probably look like "Local Disk (C:)."

  3. Step 3

    Right click on the "Local Disk." Go to "Properties" and click once on it.

  4. Step 4

    Click once on the “Hardware" tab in the “Properties" dialog box.

  5. Step 5

    Click once on the selection that has “Disk drives” under “Type.”

  6. Step 6

    Click once on “Properties” at the bottom right of the “Hardware" tab.

  7. Step 7

    Click on the “Policies" tab in the “Properties" dialog box.

  8. Step 8

    Click inside the circle in front of “Optimize for performance.”

  9. Step 9

    Select the “Enable write caching on the disk” option by clicking inside the box in front of it.

  10. Step 10

    Click "OK" to close each dialog box.
