Cajun cuisine is popular all over the country. Unfortunately, some Cajun dishes can be a bit unhealthy. With ingredients such as white rice and sausage, some Cajun dishes can be filled with bad carbs and fat. Thankfully, there are ways to cut the fat and add healthy carbs to Cajun cuisine.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Substitute the white rice with brown. White rice is loaded with bad carbs, but brown rice is extremely healthy. When you add brown rice to your Cajun dishes, you add protein and fiber as well.

  2. Step 2

Use chicken breast or seafood. Sausage may be a popular choice, but it is loaded with fat and calories. Seafood and chicken breast, on the other had, are both low in fat and calories.

  3. Step 3

Add more heat. More heat means that you burn more calories. Scientists have proven that hot foods help speed up your metabolism. Thankfully, many Cajun dishes are loaded with spices and are topped off with hot sauce.
