Tomatoes are extremely acidic, which means they can cause extreme acid reflux flareups. Unfortunately, tomatoes are in several different foods. Pastas dishes, condiments, and even soups can be laced with enough tomatoes to leave you sitting up all night. Thankfully, there are several ways you can eliminate tomatoes from your recipes without eating bland meals.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Choose olive oil or herb-based pasta sauces. Not only will these options eliminate tomatoes from your favorite pasta dishes, but they are extremely healthy and flavorful as well.
Step2
Look for condiment alternatives. Ketchup is often served on hamburgers, meatloaf and French fries, but this isn't a great option when you suffer from acid reflux. Every person who suffers from acid reflux is different. Choose condiments that work for you.
Step3
Prepare soups using broth rather than tomato sauce. Tomato sauce may make soups rich and hearty, but when broths are seasoned properly they too can be just as rich and hearty.

Tips & Warnings

  • If high fat foods don't bother your acid reflux, you can use cream based sauces and creamy condiments.
