1. Decide where on your body you would like the tattoo

2. Decide what size you want the tattoo to be.

3. Consider the type of image you would like. Popular firefighter tattoos include: animals (dalmation, bulldog, dragon, skull); symbols (EMS, IAFF. cross of St. Florian), cartoon characters, memorials to those lost, and naked ladies

4. Research as many different versions of your chosen image type. Books, magazines and the internet are all great resources.

5. Either with a specific image, or with a specific idea, go to a tattoo parlor.

6. Show or explain your tattoo to the tattoo artist and let him or her do the rest.
