  1. Running for President

    • 1

If you’d like to organize a fund raising group for your candidacy, the Federal Election Commission requires a Statement of Organization and documentation for certain donations.

    • 2

You’re not considered a candidate until your expenses or campaign fund donations have exceeded $5,000

    • 3

15 days after that happens, you can turn in an official Statement of Candidacy form (FEC form 2). Don’t worry, it isn’t a difficult form, it only has 9 lines on it.

That’s it--you’re running. Now it’s time to hit the campaign trail. Good luck to you.

    • 5

If you'd like to win the election you might want to get the support of the Democrats or the Republicans, the United States' two most prominent political parties.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you use your best handwriting on the Statement of Candidacy form.
