The wide lift tripod headstand is one of many iterations of the traditional headstand in yoga. Though not as challenging, this pose still strengthens the core and improves overall balance.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Begin in a standing position with both feet on the ground.

  2. Step 2

Move into the start of a wide-legged forward bend, positioning the feet about 4 feet apart.

  3. Step 3

Bend the upper body forward at the hips until the palms are firmly on the mat and the hands are in line with the shoulders.

  4. Step 4

Lean forward, placing the crown of the head on the mat. The arms will now be bent to a 90 degree position.

  5. Step 5

Using the core muscles, slowly sweep the legs up and together until the soles of the feet face the sky.

  6. Step 6

Press your weight into the tripod while pulling in at the naval toward the spine, adjusting the core to find the balance in the pose.

  7. Step 7

To move out of this pose, slowly sweep the legs apart, using the core muscles for support, and bring them down until the feet touch the floor.

  8. Step 8

    Move into a resting pose.
