Painting T-shirts is a fun and exciting hobby that many people enjoy doing. Painting on a T-shirt can leave a unique and beautiful design that will be yours, and yours alone, to treasure. Read on to learn how to dry paint on T-shirts.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blow dryer
  • Heavy paperweights or similar object
  • Air
  1. Step 1

The first step to drying the paint that you have applied to your T-shirt is to read the instructions on the paint you have used. Different brands may have different drying instructions. Some people choose to use acrylic paints on their clothing, while others use spray paint. One popular type of paint is to use an airbrush on T-shirts; in fact, many artists make a living using an airbrush to make custom T-shirts. Once you have determined the kind of paint you plan to use, you can proceed with the decorating.

  2. Step 2

Next, set the T-shirt out flat, where it will sit undisturbed. Make sure you put the T-shirt in a place where no one will touch it, especially young children. It should also be kept up form animals and their inquiring paws. Stretch the shirt out so that it is as flat as possible. You may want to "weigh" both arms down, as well as both bottom corners of the shirt, with something heavy enough that the shirt stays in place.

  3. Step 3

The next step would be to let the T-shirt dry for at least 24 hours, possibly more if you have applied a generous amount of paint. Do not disturb the garment. Some people use a hair dryer, on low heat, to speed up the process. However, this may cause the paint to soften, so if you do this, use the lowest setting possible.

  4. Step 4

If you are painting both sides of the T-shirt, you will want to make sure you leave yourself a couple days to get it finished. Once you completely dry the first side, you can work on painting the other side of the T-shirt. Then, repeat Steps 1 to 3 for a beautifully decorated T-shirt.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose a sunny, slightly airy spot to dry your T-shirt.
  • Do not dry your painted T-shirt in the dryer. You will have a mess of unbelievable proportions.
