Things You'll Need:
- Pair of sai
-
Step 1
Ensure that you have the appropriate length for the weapon. Hold the sai between your thumb and forefinger and place the dagger (long part) along your forearm. The sai should reach to your elbow, but no further than that.
-
Step 2
Hold one sai in each hand. They should be facing up and towards your target (slightly forward). Your thumb should be facing you while grasping the sai with your fingers.
-
Step 3
Make sure your thumb is below the pommel. The pommel is the bulge where the prongs (tsuba) and the blade meet the handle. If your thumb is above this point, an opponent could slide his sword between the blade and tsuba. This could injure or amputate your thumb.
-
Step 4
Flip the sai towards you. You should catch it between your thumb and forefinger. While doing this, your palm should be facing up. The daggers should rest on your forearms. Be careful not to strike yourself while learning this technique. Continue practicing this technique until you can do it easily.
-
Step 5
Stab or slap your target with the dagger part of the sai. The end of the handle can be used for punching or inflicting blunt force. The tsuba can be used to catch your target's clothes or skin and pull her towards you for closer combat.
-
Step 6
Throw the sai by grasping the handle and aiming at your target.
-
Step 7
Defend yourself by letting the dagger run down along your forearm and using the blades to block blows from an opponents. You can also deflect your opponent's blow by holding the handles and pushing his weapon down and to the side when he attacks.
